Dental crowding is a problem that affects a large part of the population and causes esthetic and functional problems. Patients with dental crowding often have chewing difficulties and limitations in tooth hygiene due to the difficulty in brushing crowded tooth surfaces.
This is why these patients are usually at higher risk of caries and periodontal diseases, i.e., those affecting the gums. In addition, in the long term, patients may have uneven tooth wear, cracks in the tooth or even tooth fractures.
Through the use of new techniques and increasingly comfortable and esthetic appliances, we can align teeth in a reasonable period of time, between 12 and 24 months. The treatment is carried out with appointments every 6 weeks, painless and short, of approximately 15 minutes.
The use of ceramic brackets, aligners and lingual orthodontics has universalized the application of orthodontics in the adult population, to such an extent that 40% of orthodontic patients are over 20 years of age.
In this way, the appearance of invisible orthodontic appliances, such as esthetic brackets, replacing metal brackets, makes it possible to correct the crowding of the teeth. It is also possible to gain space in the dental arch and facilitate both dental hygiene and chewing function.
We present the clinical case of a 33-year-old patient whose reason for consultation was to solve the dental crowding present in his dentition. To correct it, state-of-the-art esthetic brackets were used, which made it possible to solve his functional and esthetic malocclusion in 18 months of treatment, without the appliances causing an esthetic problem for the patient.
According to the dental malocclusion presented by the patient, the professional will indicate a type of orthodontic treatment. Invisalign aligners (clear removable splints) may also be a treatment option.
